What is this all about?

MessageDance provides you the ability to create a blog post into your blog platform simply by sending an email. You can create a blog entry by any means you can send a message in MessageDance. This means from your email client, iPhone, Facebook message center, YouTube Share, and the MessageDance DanceFloor.

What type of blog platforms do you support?

Currently, we have integrations to WordPress (.com and .org) platforms and Blogger (Blogspot) platforms.

How do I make a post?

In the simplest terms, you can create a new blog entry by emailing your post to "blog @ messagedance.com" (or blogs@). You can create a blog entry by any means you can send a message in MessageDance which includes from your email client, iPhone, Facebook message center, YouTube Share, and the MessageDance DanceFloor. You can attach photos (any file type) and place photos/images/videos in-line. We provide you a tag ("danceimage") for you to indicate where in your blog post you want the images to be placed as well as tags ("dancetags") for WordPress tagging / Blogger labeling. WordPress categories can be automatically applied from your Social Profile setup.

How do I set up the blog platform integration?

From your Social Profile, you can configure WordPress and Blogger integration.

For WordPress, you can configure a self-hosted blog or WordPress.com hosted one. Enter your Username, Password, Blog URL, and any categories you want your posts to automatically have. Select the option for your blog post to automatically publish or be saved in draft format. Select the option for how much of your blog post's content you want to appear in MessageDance.com and the other social networks you are using MessageDance. Click on "Update" and verify everything saved properly.

For Blogger, we support Blogger hosted sites (Blogspot). Click on the link to allow MessageDance to access your Blogger account. We do not store your credentials.

Where else can I make a post from besides my email client?

You can send a YouTube video directly from YouTube.com to your blog. Just make sure the email address you put in the Share feature is "blog @ messagedance.com" or "blogs@". Here are the setup instructions for YouTube (and a bonus instructional video).

Send a blog entry directly from Facebook too. Just address your Facebook message to "blog @ messagedance.com" or "blogs@".

See a picture you want to take with your iPhone and send in as a blog post? Just send the photo as an email to "blog @ messagedance.com" or "blogs@" with your Subject and Body and it will become a nicely formatted blog post.

How do I send images in my post?

If your email client supports in-line attachments (like iMail), you can copy and paste them into the position you like. You can also do the proper alignments (right, center, left). You can copy in embedded html images (linked out to other sites) into a rich media email client such as Gmail and put them in the position within your post that you want.

If you can't do in-line but have images you can attach to the email as standard attachments, you can use "danceimage" tags to indicate where you want them to go. See the example in this email:

Blog Email
Place your "danceimage" tags in parantheses and give it a number for the attchment order. Do some testing to see the best way your email client works with images.

How do I send tags and labels?

For WordPress, you can send "dancetags" which translate into WordPress tags. The format is: (dancetags firsttag, secondtag, etc). Separate with commas or spaces. Mulit-word tags are not supported.

For Blogger, "dancetags" are the same as Blogger lables. The format is: (dancetags firsttag, secondtag, etc). Separate tags with commas. Mulit-word tags are not supported, but you can form them into one word such as "bigwheel".

See the sample email above for examples.

How do I set categories in WordPress?

In WordPress, you can have categories assigned to your blog post. You can have these set automatically by MessageDance by putting in values in your Social Profile. In the Categories field, put in values seperated by commas. Multi-word categories should be put in double-quotes. See thet examples below.

Can I send other files to my blog for file-sharing?

Yes. You can attach any type of file to your email and we will place it at the bottom of your blog post with links to download the file.

Can I have multiple WordPress or Blogger blogs?

You can have one WordPress and one Blogger set up simultaneously (two blogs total). One email post goes to both.

Can I edit my post on my blog platform?

Yes. It can be sent as a draft or published immediately (see here for details). Once it is into your blog platform, you can edit it like any other blog entry.
