A Google representative said the decision was based on the fact that the name of our January 2008 event called "The Future of Web Applications" and the name of our web 2.0 conference called "Web 2.0 Conference & Expo" were not changed as requested by O'Reilly. Posted: Sunday, April 27, 2008 2:46 PM The "deadline" imposed by Microsoft on Yahoo expired yesterday, which makes it likely that Microsoft is either preparing to drop their bid or - and this appears a more likely scenario - preparing for a hostile takeover where they'll try to get a new slate of directors approved for Yahoo who would view the takeover favorably, leading to a probable merge this summer. Posted: Sunday, April 27, 2008 9:24 AM Online Seminars, webcasts, and podcasts have really exploded on the tech scene over the last year or so, but I remain skeptical about the potential of these to change things very much. An "old style" online information gathering approach still works very well. Generally it takes only a few online minutes to search, find, and quickly scan a topic you need to understand better or learn about for the first time. Read more

I was more bullish on my ASUS eee PC until the Linux OS failed to boot at the end of my China trip and it appears I'll lose some pictures I had backed up there, but until the crash I found that popular unit to be a very convenient travel computer with a small keyboard and screen as the main challenges to normal computer comforts.
